Things to do in September in Dublin and surrounding areas!

I have put together a list of things to do with your family in September in Dublin and surrounding areas. I find sometimes when you are looking for things to do you totally forget what is on so this is a handy guide that you can keep coming back to. Some events are a little drive outside Dublin but I have linked all events so you can see where they are and what suits you best. Hope it gives you some ideas of things to do!

 

Lucan Firework Display

Friday evening overlooking the weir a fireworks display will bring you a host of colours as we open the 9th annual festival and will kick off the weekend entertainment look out for more special events over the Lucan festival.

Sensational Kids Fairy Event For Charity

9th and 10th of September – 9.00 – 18.00

Fairies & Elves of all ages will begin the festival with a themed craft activity which is yours to take home with you. There ‘s one for all fairy & elf folks from the age of 1 to 101!
Continue the journey with a train ride accompanied by some very special guests into The Enchanted Fairy & Elf Forest where we will stop off for some fun and games along the way.
To add to the atmosphere, you are invited to dress up in fairy & elf costumes, wear some fairy wings or come along dressed in your favourite fancy dress costume!

Visit the Maze of Ireland to find the secret password which will give you entry into the festivities in The Enchanted Fairy & Elf Festival Area where you can meet and greet some fairies and elves, including The Tooth Fairy
Roam free and take a walk around the Rathwood Forest Walks complete with Fairy Door Trail, Dodie Tree, Wishing Seat, Worry Tree. The Rathwood Forest Walks are very easy trails, suitable for walkers of all ages and abilities.The walk trail to the lake is wheelchair accessible
Have fun in the onsite playground.

The annual Festival of Food is back at Airfield Estate on Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th September.

Calling all grandparents and grandchildren! Dublin Zoo is delighted to announce it will host a fun-filled family event on Saturday September 9th and Sunday September 10th especially for you!

Day 2 of Longines Irish Champions Weekend on Sunday 10th September is set to be an exciting finale to the 2017 season at The Curragh

The County Kildare venue is delighted to announce that they will create an exciting Family Fun Enclosure on the 10th September, which will be located in the In Field of the racecourse with fantastic views of all the racing action and accessible to anyone with a race day admission ticket.

The Enclosure will feature a great mix of family friendly fun entertainment including Alice in Wonderland themed shows with special guests Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat, Giant Games Zone, Horse Racing Zone with simulator, Reptile Zoo, face painting and lots more, together with a high quality food and beverage area.

The Doggie Do is a family-friendly festival for and about dogs on September 10th 2017 at Herbert Park. The Annual Terenrue Family Fun Day takes place on Saturday 16th September 2017 from 1pm-4pm.

The event itself takes place on the roadside pitch next to the market and consists of 6 bouncy castles (including Ireland’s biggest Zip Line experience), 4 face painters and live music all day long, a bumper market consisting of 40 stalls shocasing Hot Food, Artisan Produce and Craft with compliment the event.

Blue Street Festival

Marine Life Scavenger Hunt

We will join Marine Zoologist and Environmental Scientist, Mona McCrea on Sandycove beach at low tide to learn about the rich marine life found on our doorstep. Mona will explain to everyone what we are going to do, safety and a bit about workings of the tides. Then, with the help of a scavenger hunt we all go down to the waters edge and work together to find the plants and animals on the sea shore.

This activity is for children aged 5+. Younger siblings are welcome but are to supervised by their parents/carers at the top of the shore or down on the lower shore with the group. Although siblings will not be part of the group, Mona will try and include them as much as possible and show them all the interesting animals that are found.

Smithfield Square Spectacular on Culture Night

The interactive playground returns to Smithfeld this year with an even bigger family-friendly programme for Culture Night 2017.
The square will come alive with an array of performances, workshops and demos. Come enjoy grafitti walls, circus shows and drumming workshops. Try out taster classed in dance and fencing, and take part in some make-and-do.

Our cookery classes for 8-12 year olds run once a month and during mid terms and holidays with seasonal menus such as “All you knead is love (Bread and cake making)” at Easter and Traditional Irish classics during St. Patricks weekend.

Children will explore our food gardens and harvest their own ingredients for the different dishes they produce. Classes will be led by our education and bakery team in a relaxed and fun environment where children will be encouraged to ask questions.

Children will see the process of food from farm to fork and get hands on, learning kitchen safety with correct utensil care. They will soon getting creative in the kitchen preparing delicious healthy meals that they can recreate at home.
