Things to do in August in Dublin and surrounding areas
I have put together a list of things to do with your family in August in Dublin and surrounding areas. I find sometimes when you are looking for things to do you totally forget what is on so this is a handy guide that you can keep coming back to. Some events are a little drive outside Dublin but I have linked all events so you can see where they are and what suits you best. Hope it gives you some ideas of things to do!
National Museum of Ireland
Wednesday 1st August – Friday 31st August
We bring history to life for over a million visitors every year. At our three Dublin sites and one in Mayo, the National Museum of Ireland (NMI) holds the national collections of Archaeology, Decorative Arts, History, Ethnography, Folklife and Natural History in trust for the people of Ireland. Our mission is to put people – visitors, staff and partners – at the centre of all that we do, and engage with them in new and creative ways. And with over four million objects in our collections, we have a continual source of inspiration for our programmes.
Please click on the link below to discover all the events taking place across the four Museum sites.

We welcome Brickflicks back to The Ark this summer with a brilliant five-day stop motion animation summer camp using the theme of Myths and Legends!
Come along and learn how to make an awesome set, write a great short story and then turn it into a script. You will fine tune your animation skills and then film the results, adding cool sound effects and voice recordings for your characters. Over the week, the artists will share tips and techniques on scriptwriting, story-boarding, lighting, set design and filming. To help inspire you, they will also introduce you to their stop-motion LEGENDS of WICKLOW series, sharing behind-the scenes insights on how they were constructed.
The camp will be focused on developing your animation skills through hands-on learning and is perfect for beginners and seasoned stop motion film makers alike. You will work in groups so you will make lots of new friends – or maybe get your friends to sign up too!
Your completed movies will be shared on The Ark’s YouTube channel where you will be able to share them with all your friends and family.
All materials are supplied including the Brickflicks mobile film studio kit of iPads & accessories and arts & crafts materials for sets. So all you need is your imagination and maybe your favourite LEGO mini figure to be one of the stars!
